Barbados Welcomes 300 Visitors for Weekend Of Jazz

300 visitors and celebrities are set to arrive in Barbados this weekend for the 4th annual Elan Trotman Jazz Excursion & Golf Tournament, including AJ Calloway, co-host of Extra, Bernie Williams and John Stark.

Organizer of the weekend and jazz saxophonist Elan Trotman is satisfied with the growth of this year’s event, “2017 was billed to be even bigger and better than before, so I’m quite pleased with our progress. So far, we have confirmed that 300 visitors will travel from as far as Scotland, the United States, England, Canada and the Netherlands, as well as neighbouring Caribbean islands like Trinidad and Martinique. These attendees will experience a celebrity lineup of artists that will provide high quality entertainment, as well as luxurious accommodations, and a golf tournament, that together will showcase the best of Barbados.”

From October 6 to 8, there will be a myriad of events all packaged in an exciting itinerary that permits patrons to experience the beauty of Barbados in its totality. Trotman added that “the aim of the weekend has always been the introduce patrons to Barbados and so, the schedule of the different excursions has been simplified so that festivalgoers are able to actually create their own itineraries. It also affords them time to enjoy the luxuries offered by the three host resorts – The Crane, Hilton Barbados Resort and Ocean Two Resorts and Residences.

Over the three days, the hundreds of patrons will be treated to a mixture of talented contemporary jazz and R&B artists. Opening the action-packed weekend is Grammy award-winning guitarist, Norman Brown, who will be accompanied by urban-jazz sax player, Jeanette Harris, and up-and-coming bassist, Julian Vaughn, at the Hilton Barbados Resort. Day two is all about Trotman & Friends, an evening which includes Queen of Soca Alison Hinds, and will take place at Daiquiri Beach. On Sunday, Grammy-nominated soul vocalist, Will Downing, R&B-jazz saxophonist, Marion Meadows, and modern jazz keyboardist, Brian Simpson, will play their way into the night. All of these talented artists will close out the weekend with a late night all-star jam session.

Throughout the weekend, festivalgoers will be able to perfect their golf swing with two practice rounds at the Sandy Lane Country Club and the Barbados Golf Club on Friday and Saturday respectively, before teeing off at the Apes Hill Club on Sunday for the Annual Charity Golf Tournament. For the second year, Trotman’s Charity Golf Outing will donate to the Never Lose Your Drive Foundation, as well as the Headstart Music Program in Barbados.

In addition to jazz and golf, patrons will also experience Barbados through a range of excursions. These include an underwater trip on the award-winning Atlantis Submarines Undersea Adventure; sailing on the Jolly Roger for its Lunch Party; exploring the natural wonders of Harrison’s Cave; and a chance to literally taste island history at the Mount Gay Rum Distillery.

CEO of the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI), William “Billy” Griffith lauded the Elan Trotman Jazz Excursion & Golf Tournament for its contribution to the Barbados tourism product. “2017 continues to be a successful year for us. We have seen growth across our source markets and so far, the U.S. is up 16.4% over last year. Events such as the Elan Trotman Jazz Excursion & Golf Tournament no doubt contribute to our success and help bolster our performance by producing high quality experiences for visitors to enjoy. Elan has created a brand in line with our ideals and the event’s growth this year is evidence of its distinction in our calendar of events. We are therefore proud to once again be on board with Elan, and look forward to an exciting and entertaining weekend.”
