BTMI Announces New Team Members

The posts of corporate communications and public relations specialist, and senior business development officer have been filled by Aprille Thomas and Debbie Moe respectively.

To strengthen their communications and public relations capability, the BTMI has hired Aprille Thomas in a newly created post of corporate communications and public relations specialist. In this role, she will be responsible for both the internal and external communications projects of the BTMI, and the promotion of products and services through public relations initiatives.

Aprille is a creative digital marketing and communications professional with experience in the tourism, fashion and publishing industries. Aprille is the holder of a Bachelor’s degree in Media, Journalism and Digital Arts, with a minor in Marketing. She was also the recipient of the Harold Hoyte Scholarship for Journalism and then went on to achieve her Master’s degree in Communications, Media and Advertising from the University of Leicester. Proficient in many technical areas of the field, Aprille’s skills include website design and management, video and audio production and graphic design.

She mentioned, “I am excited to be able to support the BTMI’s efforts of managing and reinforcing the Barbados brand. This role will allow me the opportunity to draw on my diverse skill-sets from digital media to integrated marketing communications.” Aprille also spoke to the changes in communications, which have been spurred on by rapid advancements in the digital landscape. She went on to say, “My emphasis will be on ensuring that we manage the narrative of Barbados in a way that satisfies the appetites of visitors and stakeholders alike.”

New addition to the European office

BTMI Europe has hired a senior business development officer to strengthen their team. She is Debbie Moe, who recently held the post of Marketing Manager at Unicomer Barbados Ltd.

Before treading into retail, Debbie honed her hospitality career at the Accra Beach Hotel & Spa, later working for two years as a consultant for the hotel with real-time monitoring of their online tour operator accounts, through the use of issues management and comparative business intelligence. Her portfolio also includes contracting and maintenance of regional and international tour operator accounts.

Debbie, who holds a Master’s degree in Management specialising in marketing from the University of the West Indies, sees her strongest skills as personalized selling, succinct communication, buyer responsiveness and effective portfolio management.  Looking ahead to her new position she added, “I plan to use these abilities to assist BTMI Europe in exploiting the destination’s opportunities for growth and to help to continue to develop Barbados’ brand visibility and visitor loyalty.”
